ISO Circular Needle for Hat Making

I've been confusing non-knitters on Facebook lately....

What have you been up to?

A FO, Oh My!

The cowl I started during my busy work time, finished, frogged and re-started was finished (again) today. It's a simple basket weave and came out just the right length. (Sorry for the slightly grainy photo. I could only use Photo Booth to upload for some reason.) I'm more than happy with it. And I'm also happy that I have enough yarn left for a hat! Now, for finding just the right pattern.

Yay for happy knitting!

Professing My Love

I love a hardwritten note. I believe in the value of "thank you" in print and the honest sincerity of a card with words of sympathy for a lost loved one. I think the mail is a gift hand delivered and like for it to offer flowery handwriting and messages of love. (And let's be honest, when is the last time you got a bill like that?) This morning CBS Sunday Morning ran a story on the value of handwriting and how it is becoming more and more of a lost art. Seriously? Could I be any more enamored? Turns out, yes I can. Because the handwriting expert they spoke with teaches at SUNY Buffalo, one of my hometown universities. Sadly, they don't have the story posted yet.

I hope we always can celebrate the written word.....

Life...

Trust.
Believe in your future.
Enjoy what is in front of you.
Love.
Know the best is coming.
Embrace change.
Listen to your heart.
Taste the sweetness of your life right now.
Be amazed at the path you are on.
Live. Fully. Completely. With vivaciousness.
Be who you are.

This is what you get when I can't sleep and start thinking a lot. Last night resulted in a bunch of writing.... good writing, thoughtful writing and overthinking writing. Journaling is often what I need to get out my thoughts and move past what is keeping me awake. Last night, it didn't really work. I'm hoping to curl up on my couch now and take a little nap as tonight will be long (work until 2 AM or so). If that doesn't work, there is always caffiene.

Chili Time

Chili is one of my favorite winter meals, both for its full-meal-in-a-pot-ness and for the ease of making it. Surprisingly, this is only my second pot this season. This particular batch could probably have used a bit more chili powder and/or garlic but is still really good. And maybe - eventually - a side of cornbread to accompany this. Delicious!

What food is keeping you warm this winter?

Dear Etsy, I'm Yours!

I've been working crazy hours and surfing Etsy during my down time in the office. It's a lovely, lethal combination. My new loves are:

:: This pincushion. Oh, how lovely it would look on my sewing table.

:: These lovely earrings. Seriously, a must have at some point!

:: I might have to get these printing blocks for my apartment. Perfect for Valentine's Day!

:: I want this for my kitchen.

:: This clutch? Yes please!

:: So perfect for Rosy dog! Because hedgehogs are (clearly) her favorite.

:: Is this not the coolest wedding "guest book" ever?

:: I have no idea what I'd do with this but it reminds me of home....

:: Brilliant pretty colors. Yum. I love this photography.

And then my friends Alissa and Laura's shops.... really just beautiful stuff. Oh Etsy, how I adore you....

Tea Time

My next week at work is crazy, with 12 to 15 hour days and working until 2 AM. But the nice thing is I don't go in until late some of the days so my mornings can be relaxing and happy. I wake up whenever, walk Rosy, watch some of the Today Show and have breakfast. The tea this morning was necessary and quite delicious. I'm hoping to squeeze in some yoga before getting ready for work. I'm glad to be starting a crazy, long day with quiet happiness.

Patchwork Potholder (Good Band Name Perhaps?)

Yesterday morning, I needed to fix one of my fitted sheets with a loose seam. And so the sewing machine was out....
and the rest, as they say, was history. I made two potholders/hotpads for around my kitchen. I think I like the patchwork one best, although it doesn't coordinate with the kitchen as much. Oh, it was good to be sewing! I cleaned the table back up but I might dig the machine out again soon to work on the quilt I've been dreaming about. Life is good....

Chalkboard Paint {Finished Project}

I finished playing with chalkboard paint, at least for this go around. Goodness knows I have 3/4 of a can left and tons more projects to do! I threw all of the boxes of matches I have in this tin and decided "Baby light my fire" was a lot more fun than "matches." Now, to find something perfect for the picture frame and other tin!

Chalkboard Paint {Part 2}

I've been doing more painting with chalkboard paint. Tins and frames are finding themselves covered, ready for writing of love notes and other things. I'm hoping to finish my projects this week and either put the paint away (but why?) or seek out more things to cover!

Fearlessness perhaps?

As I have done for the past couple of years, I decided to again embrace a theme in 2011. Savor the Possibilities (2009) and Leap (2010) worked quite well to remind me of what is important in life and the need for continual growth. For 2011, I'm going with "Be Fearless." Too often in my life, I've let the "what if's" hold me back or make me over think. And although thinking things through is a good thing, overthinking is not. I want to live my life a little more on the edge. I want to seek adventure and say the things I would have held back in the past. I want to practice bravery. And so "Be Fearless" it is. I'm hoping it will inspire me throughout the challenges and bursts of happiness in 2011.

I'm also hoping to live by these tenets, inspired from The Happiness Project:
  • Don't overthink.
  • Be yourself.
  • Each day, celebrate you.
  • Savor what is right in front of you.
  • Focus on love.
  • Don't take things personally.
  • Be creative.
  • Later may not come. Do it now.
What is guiding you in 2011?

Year in Review: 2010

Oh 2010, you were a good one! I feel like the last year offered me a number of wonderful, fun and engaging blessings.
  • I made a couple of fun trips to Buffalo to visit family.
  • I mastered a tomato basil soup recipe.
  • My step-nephew got married to a beautiful and lovely woman.
  • I went on many, many hikes in the woods by me. Rosy delighted in swimming in creeks (and sadly rolling in gross things).
  • I tried to Couch to 5K my life. My body rebelled. I got the opportunity to strengthen myself in other ways.
  • I Unravelled. And I'm better because of it.
  • I got Estelle.
  • I started a 365 project. My photography has grown as a result.
  • I've embraced Philly by visiting Eastern State Penitentiary, finally visiting Betsy Ross' house, going to the Devon Horse Show and seeing the orchestra a bunch.
  • I picked apples. And pumpkins. And peaches. And corn. And strawberries. All with my gorgeous friend Katie.
  • I said "see you soon" to my friend Robyn as she moved to Indianapolis.
  • I got to go whitewater rafting with my friend Jen.
  • And I watched the same Jen marry the love of her life.
  • I met a delightful man that I enjoy spending time with.
  • I stopped to smell the roses.
  • I helped coordinate a movie night in the courtyard of my apartment complex. It was a great time with my neighbors.
  • I revisited my alma mater with a good friend from college.
  • I visited the flea market and scored some good finds.
  • I made a number of trips to the arboretum.
  • I continued to grow my friendships.

I'm truly, delightfully blessed. I can only hope 2011 will offer similar, wonderful gifts.
